About Myagi
DJ Myagi aka Iain McCaig is a DJ from Hampshire He Started DJing back in 1990 at the age of 16 around the end of the acid house era and at the start of the Hardcore rave scene phenomenon,
Back then he was heavily influenced by the top DJs of the time, imitating the mixing styles of DJs such as Slipmatt, Ellis Dee and Mickey Finn.
Myagi Dj‘d as part of a trio with his best friends James Dewey (DJ Dooey) and Richard Belton (Indesign Soldier) putting on their own events and playing at house party’s in their local area.
With Money being tight, they combined their resources and bought a set of citronics and a Realistic mixer from Tandy and pooled their record collections to form an impressive collection of vynil.
The three friends traveled the south pretty much every weekend, clubbing and raving their way around the iconic clubs, illegal raves, free party’s and Big name Raves of the time.
Known then as DJ Diehard he was playing hardcore/ dark side and after a few years the friends went their own separate ways as music tastes and styles started to vary. Around that time Iain’s cousin, Anthony Paul (DJ Sible) , invited him to join Radioactive, a pirate radio station broadcasting to the Surrey Hampshire borders. The illegal set up, playing the latest tunes, was one of the only ways for young people to listen again to the tunes they heard playing in the clubs and raves and the popularity was immense, turning the DJs on the station into local legends. constantly evading the DTi and transmitting live on the airwaves gripped Iain for life and he looks back fondly on those times.
Myagi’s passion for music never hindered although DJing took a backseat when he started a family, and set up his own business but he eventually returned to Radioactive to present a regular show.
Iain changed his DJ name to DJ Myagi which is a nick name adopted for him by friends over 30 years ago due to Iain’s martial arts history from judo as a kid to jui-Jitsu as an adult. This was in reference to Mr Miyagi of karate kid fame, he dropped one the i’s in the name as there is multiple other DJs using the correct spelling.
Playing predominantly HardHouse he was the founder of his regular Monday night show on Radioactive ‘HardHouse Monday’ regularly being in the top 5 of the hardstyle chart on Hearthis.at
He also plays old school house, hardcore, electro and hip hop., each of his shows are unique.
DJ myagis Back catalogue can be found on soundcloud and 100’s of his shows are uploaded to Radioactivefm’s Hearthis.at page where his shows are more mixtape than radio presenter. A man of few words on the radio but what he does say is worth hearing.
In the last few years ,always DJing at home keeping his hand in, Myagi re-found his passion for DJing and promoting a few ‘History of House’club nights. He’s played at 33Hz, House of Windsor and Simpsons to name but a few, but his love for DJing always stems back to the smaller venues and house party’s everyone used to love back in the day and of course his proudest of achievements, his roots from early 90’s Radioactive as a radio pirate 👍❤️☢️
